Happy holidays! This is likely our last major patch of the year (unless we seriously broke stuff)
We have significant changes to the bosses: Doormaker and Knowledge Demon while also bringing in changes and tweaks for various content, notably for events.
You may notice that the game is slightly kinder during the holidays, as several relics have gotten their drop rules updated. Many cards now have updated names as we gear up the content for translation while ancient dialogues get a small clean up. The Timeline's getting some unlock changes soon... in preparation, there's bugfixes, cleanup, and simplification this patch.

All of this unlocking business revealed we needed some more content and so we're bringing in 17 relics and 4 potions. We're also adding some logic that makes it so you encounter each boss until you've seen them all.
There's also first time user experience stuff going in. Players will encounter a different boss each Act until you've fought them all. Afterwards, they will be randomized as usual. This feature exists in the first game as well, don't tell anyone. Similar logic exists for the very first run that you do, you'll always fight our simplest enemy on that run.
Necrobinder and Defect continue to get content and balance passes as we clean up some bugs from a lot of the combat logic cleanups which we're still bringing in.
Finally, there's a big speed up for card play as cards now kick off their effects while the card is flying towards the center upon playing (rather than after the card finishes flying to the center). Thanks to ocean for pointing it out :). Okay, have a nice week.

It's time for the second June patch! This week brings in more controller support so you should be able to play an entire run from start to finish using a controller or Steam Deck. Still, it's quite early so feedback on its ux, ui, bugs, and general feedback about its implementation are appreciated. The support is in for Xbox controllers so other controllers may experience some weirdness or incompatibility at this time. Please report those as issues too!
The Timeline is still taking a little break while we bring in some balance changes, ux fixes, wording updates, and the usual bug extermination.

Happy summer patch time!
This week Neow and Tanx are getting glow ups while we bring in a whole host of cards for everyone while focusing balance on the Underdocks.
A lot of the map assets have new colors, values, and some updated icons and we're also packing a lot of common textures so if you notice any strange visual issues or performance problems, do let us know because the texturepacker compatibility is a little janky. Things like image compression are now used on select assets as well so if you see non-placeholder assets with artifacting or anything, feedback there is appreciated.
A good chunk of core character SFX also made it in so each playable character should have more of its audio identity.
The Timeline is taking a time out this week as we want a few more UX touches before we take a look at it anew.

It's the last weekly patch... of May 2025 that is!
Okay okay, this week brings back the game mode: Custom.
It's called Custom Climb and is available for both Singleplayer and Multiplayer. Daily Climbs are now also available for Multiplayer. It'll be interesting to see how scores differ between a variety of group sizes.
Multiplayer also gets more interesting with the addition of cards exclusive for multiplayer!
These cards are sold by the Merchant, but depending on their popularity we may look into expanding how you get them and how much of this kind of content there is :).
We're deprecating a few Neow choices as we'll be bringing in changes here next week and potions are getting renames as their art assets will be getting a fresh look soon. Okay have fun.

It's the return of the Daily Climb this week! Those who have played at least one game can now participate in the Daily Climb. Does the leaderboard work? Do the modifiers cause issues? Have ideas for the daily?? Now's your chance to give feedback.
This patch also brings many changes to the Underdocks including 3 new encounters and lots of balancing and reworks while we continue to incorporate art and animations for these critters. There are also new Necrobinder cards and new Events which aren't exclusive to the Underdocks.
Upon winning or losing, there's now a more dramatic Climb Summary screen. You'll be able to speed it up later, but for now- patiently wait while viewing all the rooms you traversed and the amount of new things you discovered at the end of each climb.

This week, we're still making significant changes to the back end for flexibility and performance improvements so please let us know of any issues like broken textures or egregious hiccups. General feedback about overall performance or quality of certain assets is also appreciated.
Content is still focused on getting the Defect to a good place while making general balance adjustments.
At the start of each run, the player now goes straight to Neow and there's a less intense HP refill effect. This mimics STS1's behavior and saves a click.
The Timeline is functional again and while it still has no affect on gameplay, transitions are smoother, the requirements for obtaining them are no longer random, and some save migration logic has been added so the screen isn't too broken. It's not quite ready for primetime yet.

We're back to our regularly scheduled programming this week--another Slay the Spire 2 build is here! In terms of content for this patch we have two new Act 1 bosses and some new Regent cards along with lots of balance and UI/UX updates. And in even bigger news, we're switching to Steam builds from here on out!
IMPORTANT: this means you will have to mark the game as private on Steam so that StS2 and StS2-related activity is hidden on your profile like so:
- Activate the game key in Steam
- Right-click on Slay the Spire 2 in your library
- Click Manage -> Mark as Private
We've attached a video demonstrating the process, too. Just DM/ping Casey or Anthony for a key and they'll get you one!

Heads up that we made some changes to our save file format which require your run history to be reset! If you have an in-progress run, the game will auto-abandon it. So if you have an in-progress run you want to finish, you should finish it on your current build before downloading the new one.
Here are the steps to deleting your run history:
1. Open the command line with ~ key
2. Type "open saves"
3. Delete the settings.save, the progress.save, and the run_history folder

This week's build is bringing some big Ancient glow ups: more content, choices, reworks, AND the Ancients no longer offer boss relics... but that's just because a brand new Ancient, the Hoarder, has been living up to his name and hoarding them all! Hey playtesters, got another patch for ya! And it's a doozy. First of all... THE NECROBINDER REWORK IS HERE!! No more swapping! Necro's HP is now a fraction of what it was but, at the end of combat, she heals completely AND revives Osty if he's dead! Another big change to her kit is she can now sacrifice her own HP to boost Osty in various ways through cards. We're very interested in hearing your thoughts on her new playstyle!! 💀 ✨
Other notable changes are that this is the first Godot build with music and SFX (wooo!) and the Regent's Gravity mechanic has started to be phased out (still a WIP!)
Also, one of the bugs we've been tracking is a particular kind of softlock. We've seen it a couple of times but it's particularly tricky to reproduce. Unlike other softlocks, the common symptom of this one:
So far we're calling this bug the hand lock (or hand cramp). If you see it, please file it as such with as much info as you can. Happy slaying!

Patch time!!! We have a lot more bug fixes as usual, but most notably we have a lot of enemy reworks. For instance, the Burrowing Bug is no longer untargetable when burrowed and the Queen and her Torch Head Amalgam have some fresh new moves.
Also the Regent is looking SO SNAZZY with his new animations, assets, and card art!! Revel in our special boy's glory ✨
By the way, some things we have planned changes for are Shattered, Byrdonis, and Gravity, so don't worry about those too much for now. In the meantime, let's dig into this!

The Necrobinder has been overhauled quite a bit and is ready (with some issues) for a bit of playtesting :). Her starter cards are different and many of the cards have been reworked to match the changes. That being said, there have been no balance passes. We think that save/loading runs should now be working so you can take breaks from the game without fear of losing progress. If you run into any save/load issues, you'll find the save file here (change the username portion): `C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Mega Crit\Slay the Spire 2\Local\defaultProfile`
We're starting to fill in Act 3 with content but not all the content is there yet. Still, feedback for what is in there would be great :). Note that there are some filler enemies/bosses/events in there from Act 1 which won't be there later.

Hi hi, this week the save/load system is... nearly complete! I think it should work fine now except when loading the game back into event rooms so don't do that unless you want to have a bad time. If you notice issues with things not loading outside of that, file bugs please!
We're looking into changing up Necrobinder but not quite yet. However, Osty now attacks the closest enemy so that's a big shift.

In general we've been doing a pretty major architecture migration since the start of the year so some descriptions, upgrades, content logic could be a bit screwy. If you see any strangeness there (order of operation, cards not doing what they say they should, missing hovertips) do file them bugs, thanks!

Gameplay focus is large sweeping changes to DOOM cards, so let me know how those feel.
